    Note
    • Mr and Mrs Scott had a ranch of 1700 acres and a saw mill on Manitoulin Island. I think John Scott is probably from Puslinch.

      I found them in the cemetary index in "Mills-Burpee" cemetary on Manitoulin Island. Mills and Burpee are neighbouring townships so it is probably on the townline. It is located on "lot 24 S.W. corner of concession 7", doesn't say which of the two townships. Dr James R Scott is buried there too. It doesn't say he'e their son, but I'm assuming he is. Also, a footstone says: "Our darling David Scott, son of Ted and Marie, 1941 - 1946". I'm assuming that Ted is a son, and David a grandson. The microfilm is very difficult to read so I am not certain of the Ted. Actually Ted could be a Grandson and David a Great Grandson.


      I found them in the census years 1881, 1891, and 1901. The birth dates are taken from the 1901 census. Margaret is in the 1881 and 1891 but not the 1901, I assume she died. They live in Mills Twp. Their farm is on concession 8, lot 2. It looks like 1500 acres, but the 1 has two horizontal marks through it, like it was meant to be stroked out, so in fact it might be 500 acres. Most of the farms are large like that, but 600 is the largest. 1500 acres fits with the story I have from the historical atlas for Puslinch which says they had a ranch of 1700 acres and a sawmill. There is 1 8 room W(ood) house, 4 barns and 1 manufacturing establishment, perhaps the sawmill described in the historical atlas.

      There is a very small Indian reserve nearby, 5 families.

      Maria had her babies over a 20 year span. The last one (that I know of) at 41, the first at 22.
