Name Charlotte MALLET [1] Christening 18 Jun 1808 Padstow, Cornwall, England
Gender Female SW Group K UKC 1881 N Person ID I5797 Southwest Last Modified 18 Apr 2013
Father John MALLET, c. 25 Dec 1782, Liskeard, Cornwall, England
bur. 22 May 1833, Morval, Cornwall, England
(Age ~ 50 years) Mother Mary TAPTER, b. Est 1782 Marriage 2 Mar 1806 Liskeard, Cornwall, England
[2] - As usual there were several different Johns who might have married Mary Tapter. This one was chosen because he was born in Liskeard where the marriage took place, and was about the correct age. There were 2 Johns born in Liskeard in the same year, and the choice of this particular one is more or less arbitrary, except for the fact that a burial has been attributed to this one, and Mary (Tapter) appears to have been a widow in 1841. It's almost a circular reference, but in the end it doesn't matter much, because the 2 Johns were 2nd cousins, so each line traces back to the same point.
There are a number of things that don't make sense with this family:
Although all of the children follow in a sensible chronology (except the last one, see below), the first was born 2 years before the marriage date. This child has been left with this family because there is no other known marriage of a Mary and John in this area in this time frame.
There was another John born 1790 in St Minver who might have had a daughter in Padstow in 1808.
There may well be 3 different John and Mary families.
The youngest child, John, was quite a bit younger than the preceding children, but evidence from the 1841 census places him with this family.
