    • The 1870 census does not provide relationship information, but it appears that Kate and Markham may not have been married at that time, even though their first child Louisa was about a year old. Kate, Markham, and Louisa were living with Kate's parents, but Kate's name was recorded as Hackelton, not Mallett. It's also possible that Kate was not Louisa'a mother, or that the enumerator simply recorded her name incorrectly.

The 1900 census says that they had been married for 25 years, and that they had 9 children, all living.

The 1910 census says that they were married 41 years and that they had 10 children, with 9 living. One child must have been born and died between 1900 and 1910.
