This was part of a set of three watercolours produced to advertise the Ash Estate when the Mallet family put it up for sale circa 1879. This is the view looking south from the front of the mansion, toward Dartmoor.Death 1881 Tunbridge Wells, Kent, England [5, 6, 7]
- Hugh left Buenos Aires in March (uncertain) 1881 in very poor health, came back to England and died very soon afterward. According to Hugh's 1881 diary, he was aware of his poor health and expected to die before the end of the year. He had Tuberculosis (TB), and it seems he went to Tunbridge Wells as soon as he landed in England 'to take the waters'. Tunbridge Wells is a 'Watering Place'; in other words a place where sick folk went in the hope of a 'health cure' through taking the beneficial waters.
