      It is not known who the parent of the grandson William was. He may have been the son of William Stephen, or the illegitimate offspring of one of the daughters. Stephen John was a bit too young to be his father, and he also had a son called William, but he was born much later.

      His and Mary's ages are not consistent with their birthdates, but everything else fits. Stephen was born in Devonport, living in Henry St Pancras, and a Piano Maker, with a daughter Mary. All details consistent with previous censuses.

      The grandson Alfred is unknown, and hasn't been found in any census other than this one, but he seems a likely fit with the Stephen Jr family because of his age, place of birth (Pancras), and because Stephen Jr is the only son known to have a family.

      As in 1881, Stephen and Mary's ages are not consistent with their birth dates, but everything else fits.

      Mary is described as a widow, but her surname is still Mallett. She could have married between 1881 and 1891, but a search of the Civil Indexes does not produce an obvious match. Either she was incorrectly described as a widow or her married name was not recorded.

      The surnames of the little girls are also Mallett. They may be Mary's daughters, but it doesn't seem likely, because she would have been 41 when the eldest was born.
